Can I move into my dorm early? In most cases, no. Permissions for early move-in are handled by Residential Life and are only given to those meeting specific criteria (athletic obligations, band auditions, etc). Early move-in is only allowed for those who have been approved by Residential Life.
-
How big will my room be?You can see the Room/Packing information here!
-
Do I need to bring furniture or appliances? No large furniture is needed—your room comes with all the essentials. However, quads have a common room that does not include any furniture, so you may want to discuss with your roommates how you’d like to furnish or use that space. Many students bring small items like a mini fridge, fan, or sometimes a small couch or other furniture. Check out our Room/Packing information page for more tips!
-
Do I need a bike? You can bring a bike or non-electric scooter to campus. Campus is very walkable, but a bike can be convenient. Most of the buildings are a five to ten-minute walk from PW, and most of the students prefer to walk. If you bring a bike, make sure to also bring a strong lock. All bicycles must be registered with the Notre Dame Police Department (NDPD) and display a tag visibly on the bike. Registration is free and can be completed in person with your bicycle at Hammes Mowbray Hall or at one of several registration events held throughout the year. More info here: https://dulac.nd.edu/campus-life/transportation/
-
Can I ship items to my residence hall ahead of time?If you are having items shipped, make sure they are scheduled to arrive AFTER you check in. There is no secure area to store packages or shipments that arrive prior to the beginning of the year.
-
How do I receive mail?Every room in PW has its own mailbox, meaning that you will share a mailbox with your roommate(s). Our mail room is located on the first floor. You can access your mailbox anytime with your room key. If you are expecting a package, you can pick it up from the mailroom during designated Package Hours that are set every semester, but packages are often delivered straight to the resident's door. Mail Address: Resident Name [Room #] 100 Pasquerilla West Hall Notre Dame, IN 46556-5622

How do I do laundry on campus?Every dorm has laundry machines. They’re free for student-use, just bring detergent. Machines work on a first-come, first-serve basis.
-
Can I access a kitchen?Yes! We have a shared kitchen with basic appliances on the first floor. There are some communal utensils and dishes. It is always open for resident use & we just ask that we all take care of our shared spaces and clean up after ourselves.
-
What are the bathrooms like? There are two communal bathrooms on each floor (A & B side), except the first floor, which has two all-gender stalls. Most bathrooms have five stalls, three sinks (each room in PW has its own sink as well), and five shower stalls. There are shelves in each bathroom where you can store a shower caddy.
-
Should I bring a printer?Nope! You can print at multiple locations across campus, including dorms, academic buildings, and libraries, using your NetID and ID card.
-
How do I print on campus?Undergraduate students receive $20 PrintND Dollars for the Academic year, and it costs only a few cents per black and white page (single or double-sided) and a little more for each color page (single or double-sided). There are printers all around campus, so printing is never really an issue. All you need is your ID card or netID and password. There is even a printer in every dorm—the PW printer is located on the first floor in one of our study rooms.
-
Will I have Wi-Fi on campus?Yes! Notre Dame has campus-wide Wi-Fi.
-
Which meal plan should I choose?First-year students at the University of Notre Dame are required to participate in a meal plan. The default option is the Block 250 plan, which includes 250 meal swipes and $500 in Flex points for on-campus dining.
-
What are Domer Dollars and Flex Points?Flex Points are an extension of campus meal plans and are accepted only in select on-campus retail food service establishments. Flex points roll over from fall to spring semester and expire at the end of the academic year. Examples of On-Campus Dining: Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, The Huddle Mart, Flip Kitchen, Hagerty Cafe, etc. Domer Dollars are more versatile than Flex Points, with broader acceptance in more locations, both on and off campus. For students, Domer Dollars never expire and will carry over from year to year. More info here: https://irish1card.nd.edu/domer-dollars/
-
What are parietals?Parietals are Notre Dame’s guest visitation hours in single-gender residence halls. Guests of the opposite sex can only be in your room during certain hours: Sunday to Thursday: 9 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday: 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. Outside of those hours, guests must leave the living areas (room or floor), but don’t worry—our dorm has 24-hour common spaces like the main lounge, so you can still hang out, study, or relax with friends after hours.
-
Can I have overnight guests?Same-gender overnight guests are generally allowed, but they must be registered. Guests under 18 require approval from your Rector (RA approval is not needed). Please fill out the overnight guest registration form, which includes more details about expectations and policies. Opposite-gender overnight guests are not permitted in residence halls per university policy.
-
What time zone is Notre Dame in?Notre Dame is in the Eastern Standard Time Zone (EST).
-
What is the weather like?Expect all four seasons! It’s hot and humid in August, chilly by October, snowy from November through March, and a little rainy in spring. Bring layers, a warm coat, waterproof shoes, and a fan for the start of the year. Review our packing list here!
